May the Force be with you

Introduction

My name is Kaleb Drake and I am 28 years old. I am a US Navy Veteran, I work full time for Corning Inc. as a Controls technician and I have a daughter who was born in April of 2019. I am interested in all things technology, I've been tearing apart and re-building electronics since I can remember.

quote types matter, ie; ``,\,'',""
`` - used for commands
\ - used to quote a single character
'' - used when you want to display exactly what's written

A single pipe '|' is used for a binary (or bitwise) 'or' operator in the c programming language. We used this in the compare function of the sll1 project to store information about list1 and list2 in a single unsigned char. ie; unsigned char code = 0x40|0x04; results in 0x44 being stored. 0x40 and 0x04 were defined in another header file to tell us compared information about the lists. Compare status of a single list, or both lists could be stored, and read, from a single unsigned char this way.

sort function can be used to display contents of a file in a sorted manner, ie by numeric value as used in pbx0 (-g modifier). can direct output to a file, but the file has to be a different name.

start scripts using “#!/bin/bash” – the '#!' is called a shebang

ar is another archiving tool

head function is used to display the top 10 lines of a file, unless given another number of lines with the -n modifier

tail function is used in the same way as head, except for the last lines of a file

cut can be used to 'copy' (doesn't remove from original file) data from a file, ie bytes 1-28 of each line

paste can be used to put multiple files into a single file, with or without delimiters

tr can be used to change or delete a character from a file. ie remove all 'X' or change all 'Z' to ' '

to use pointer notation for an array in C:

 Declare:
    int *intArray = NULL;
    intArray = (int *)malloc(sizeof(int)*(#of array indexes));
 Assign value to index:
    *(intArray + (index)) = value;
       -^^ to access data at index

use mv to rename files file - gives file information .xx* is not a file type; is a naming convention can 'cat' 'tac' 'rev' to a file EVERYTHING IS A FILE
